Opportunity for a 2024 NQ Lawyer to join the high-ranking Real Estate Litigation team at one of Scotland's largest commercial law firms- this role can be based in Edinburgh or Glasgow.
Role Profile:
- This market-leading team has been involved in a number of landmark cases in the Supreme Court and the Court of Session, particularly in the Commercial Court. You will work with institutional investors/funds, estate owners, retailers, commercial tenants and landlords and will be involved in a high level of complex litigation.
- Additionally, you will be responsible for cases in the Sheriff Court and Tribunal system and will be encouraged and supported to use ADR (including arbitration, negotiation and mediation) to resolve disputes.
- This is key role in the growth of the business by building and maintaining effective client relationships and maintaining an active focus on business development.
You will be responsible for:
- Providing advice and opinion work to clients in relation to real estate dispute resolution, always adopting a commercial approach.
- Working with a range of clients including corporate, property, professional and high net worth individuals.
- Dealing with complex and challenging issues with tight deadlines.
- Representing clients in the Sheriff Court/Land Court/Lands Tribunal.
- Actively seeking solutions through alternative forms of dispute resolution.
- Working effectively with other team members and (where appropriate) supervising the work of those less qualified.
- Keeping appraised of changes in law and developments in practice area.
- Working to understand the team’s key clients, the industry they operate in and the challenges they face.
- Taking responsibility for managing their own workload.
- Providing client advice in short timescales that is well presented and tailored to their needs.
- Communicating in a confident, clear and relaxed way.
- Maintaining regular contact with clients/colleagues and demonstrating an understanding of the priorities for the client.
- Participating in business development activities of the unit, practice area and firm and is a self-starter.
Candidate Requirements:
- Prior experience in real estate litigation would be an advantage but not essential- candidates with general litigation backgrounds looking to specialise are invited to apply.
- Understanding of clients’ needs and tailors advice appropriately.
- Demonstrates strong written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrates strong research skills.
- Ability to manage own case load.
- Knowledge of court and tribunal procedure particularly knowledge of jurisdiction, interim orders, judicial expenses and diligence.
