Legal Recruitment London
At Thomson Legal, our competitive advantage is that we can offer the ‘best of both worlds’. Firstly, we understand you. We know your background, your experience, your aspirations and can accurately and positively sell your skills and experience to our clients in London. Secondly, we know our clients in the City. We know what they want and know what they look for. We can help you prepare for interviews and advise you on the best options available. We have clients who are specifically targeting talent from the Scottish and Irish markets and work in partnership with us as we can offer this unique service and understanding.
Scottish and Irish lawyers can be found in law firms and companies of all sizes and in all sectors across the City. Most will find that their commercial experience will be highly transferable and it is the quality of work and your level of involvement that is important, not the size of a deal or the size of your current department.

London Market Survey and Salary Overview 2023/24
Legal Jobs with Law Firms in London
As the UK economy recovers from the Covid 19 Pandemic, the private practice market in London is actively hiring and all firms including US firms and magic circle find themselves competing for the same talent. Particular areas of focus currently remain in corporate, banking, energy, arbitration, property, structured finance, capital markets and technology. There continues to be a focus on Associate level recruitment, essentially the bloodline of transactional teams, however there is also a rise in more senior appointments and the opportunity to hire laterally at Partner level or to hire skilled teams, remains attractive for the majority of firms.
In-House Legal Jobs in London
The In-House market remains highly competitive and can often be a difficult market to break into directly when you move to the City. Many candidates seek to make a move to a private practice firm initially to gain the ‘London experience’ that many companies regard as a pre-requisite. That said, we have witnessed substantial growth within financial services, financial products, regulatory, investment funds and IT/IP. Candidates with experience (gained directly or via secondment) in these areas can often find themselves in a strong position should they be looking to move in-house.
