Legal Recruitment Scotland
While the Covid 19 pandemic has had an impact on the economy as a whole, the legal sector in Scotland remains buoyant.
A significant number of strategic law firm mergers and alliances being formed in Scotland over the last few years, which has led to an increase in client offering and a need to increase headcount with additional fee earners. This has also led to a more even distribution across office locations and with what we predict to be increased flexibility in terms of working arrangements, the field is more competitive and we are likely to see more alternative options than ever before.

Scotland Market Survey and Salary Overview 2021/22
Scottish Legal Jobs in Edinburgh and Glasgow
Edinburgh continues to reap the benefits of being one of the largest financial centres in Europe, providing many legal recruitment opportunities in Scotland. We predict further growth which will result in ongoing recruitment both in practice and in-house in general banking, financial services, retail finance, investment funds, asset management, IP, commercial property and corporate.
The Glasgow market maintains the need for lawyers with construction (contentious and. non contentious), projects, energy, property, infrastructure and commercial contracts both for private practice groups as well as in-house. There has also been an increasing number of renewables companies setting up a base in the West creating new career opportunities in Scotland.
Legal Jobs in Aberdeen
The Aberdeen market clearly has been affected significantly following the fall in oil prices. While many law firms and in-house legal teams remain operational in the North East, opportunities to move laterally are more limited and we have witnessed many Aberdeen lawyers opting to relocate to the central belt or indeed, further afield.
Returning to Scotland
During the pandemic we have spoken with many Scottish lawyers considering a move home. We understand this can be daunting and. Thomson Legal are happy to assist with market information and to discuss options if you are thinking about a return or a relocation to Scotland.
